CURIOUS ABOUT THE CCSLC?
07-11-2008
The Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC), is a new CXC certified secondary level programme with the aims of equipping students with a wide range of abilities( knowledge, values and skills) to function efficiently and compete in our global village. The CCSLS is a three year programme which covers five core subjects. These include English, Integrated Science, Mathematics, Modern Languages (French or Spanish) and Social Studies. The CCSLC was not designed to replace the CXC but rather to complement the present programme, and focuses on the development of individual competency.Presently the programme is being offered to students at the secondary level and above, however, high school dropouts are also eligible to do this programme.
The programme also has a values and attitude component which focuses on the development of positive image of self, family, community, region and the world; unconditional respect for others. The CCSLC was launched by Dr. Lucy Steward, Registrar of the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) in February 2007. According to Dr. Steward, this examination is important, as a regional programme certified by CXC will have greater currency than a national certification. She also posits that through regional cooperation, territories will be able to achieve economies of scale in areas such as syllabus development, examination preparation and administration.
