KANS-PROJECT
SABA COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL KANS PROJECT
Saba through the Eyes of Saban Students
Through the KANS project the Saba Comprehensive School is planning on collaborating with Fioretti College in the Netherlands. Our aim is to enlighten, educate, and exchange ideas with our twin school in the Netherlands about Saba. Fioretti College will not only learn about our school and its students but also about the smallest and highest island in the Dutch Kingdom.
SOME OBJECTIVES.
- The use of the internet as a medium for fast effective communication
- The use of the internet to investigate lifestyles and cultures of different societies.
- In relation to science to use real time data to monitor weather patterns over twelve months in different geographical regions.
We plan on carrying out the following activities.
E-mail Buddies
Students in the BAVO 1 & 2 and other upper classes will exchange emails with students in the subject areas of Dutch, English, and Geography. The goal is that students will be able to share information about the similarities and differences of how these subjects are taught in the two schools. This will also enhance the students writing and communication skills.
Webcam Presentation
Students will have the opportunity to follow a lesson in the Netherlands and likewise students in the Netherlands will be able to follow and participate in a lesson on Saba.
Geography/Social Studies Project
Students in Form 3 and other upper class students will participate in a research project about their island. It will include the traffic situation of the island, the social services of the island, and the urbanization of the island. This information will be used to compare the Saban situation with Lisse in the Netherlands.
DVD-Presentation
Students of the Saba Comprehensive School will develop a DVD about their island. This will be used to show the students in the Netherlands the essence of Saba. Likewise one will be made for the Saba students about Lisse.
Student Partnerships
Students will develop partnerships and collaborations through the project. They will become involved in the project through the available technologies and the bonds of fellowship will be developed and strengthened.
